Futuro Media Group Co-CEO and Executive Director
I am an Investigative Journalist.
I was born in Havana, Cuba, and grew up in Los Sitios, where I enjoyed strolling along the Malecón and savoring ice cream at Coppelia. I deeply miss the streets, houses, and people of my hometown.
I studied journalism at the Universidad Veracruzana, where I also nurtured my passion for poetry and published a small collection of poems. Although I write less poetry now, I still read it to find peace and beauty.
My investigative journalism career began at Imagen de Veracruz, and later I moved to Mexico City to work at Reporte Índigo, one of the most innovative journalism projects of its time. From 2017 to 2021, I served as a correspondent for Univision’s Investigative Unit, covering a variety of topics such as drug trafficking, law enforcement, corrupt politicians, and multinational corporations.
In 2021, I was honored with a Jack R. Howard Fellowship in International Journalism from the Scripps Howard Foundation and a Carlos M. Castaneda Journalism Scholarship, which allowed me to study at Columbia University. There, I earned a Master of Arts in Business and Economics Journalism.
After receiving seven Emmy nominations for Spanish-language news and documentaries, I won an Emmy in 2022 as an investigative producer and correspondent. Additionally, I received the Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists for my work in Spanish-language print and online investigative reporting. In 2023, my first investigation published at Futuro Investigates won the 2022 IRE Award.
My columns have appeared in Sin Embargo, El Heraldo de México, and El Universal. Currently, my column is published in Reforma, Mural, and El Norte, which are some of the most influential newspapers in Mexico.
I also published the book Los millonarios de la guerra [The Millionaires of War], which examines the immense fortunes made from the “war on drugs.”
Currently, I am the executive producer of investigations at Futuro Media Group.
